Silicon errata: found, classified, published and tracked: procedure

How deviations of a shipped or sampled device from its published specification are confirmed, classified, given workarounds, published to customers and tracked through each silicon revision. Errata are a promise of honesty to customers: the errata document says what does not work as specified, under which conditions, how to avoid it and whether a later revision fixes it. This procedure sets out the steps, roles, records and approval levels, and how the flow differs across lifecycles.

1. Purpose

This procedure governs silicon errata: deviations of a sampled or shipped device from its published specification. Customers design with the published specification; errata tell them honestly where the device departs from it, under which conditions, how to avoid the problem and whether a later revision fixes it.

The procedure confirms each erratum before publication, classifies it consistently, pairs it with a tested workaround, publishes it as a controlled document and tracks its status across every silicon revision, so that users of every revision have accurate information for as long as the product is supported.
