Glossary comparison
Fusion Compiler vs IC Compiler II: what is the difference?
The difference
IC Compiler II is Synopsys's place and route tool. Its technology forms the implementation side of Fusion Compiler, but it remains a separate product.
Fusion Compiler is a separate Synopsys product that covers RTL to GDSII, combining synthesis and implementation. Synopsys's own place and route glossary now lists Fusion Compiler rather than IC Compiler II.
The two terms
Fusion Compiler
Synopsys's single-binary RTL-to-GDSII implementation tool, which runs synthesis, placement, clock tree synthesis, routing and signoff-accurate analysis on one unified data model.
IC Compiler II
Synopsys's place and route tool for digital implementation, built on a compact in-memory data model for large flat designs. It performs placement, clock tree synthesis, routing and timing closure.
