Summary

Maps the 5-to-15-year trajectory of device, lithography, packaging and memory technology and turns it into decision-ready roadmaps, so that fabs, IDMs and equipment makers invest against a coherent view of what is physically and economically feasible.

Responsibilities

Project

Work done for a product or program.

Track research pipelines through IEDM, VLSI Symposium, ISSCC, IITC and imec and TSMC technology symposia and assess time-to-production for each option.
Assess competing technology options including GAA nanosheet, CFET, backside power delivery, High-NA EUV, hybrid bonding, glass substrates and 3D DRAM.
Build scaling and cost-per-transistor models that pair technical feasibility with economic viability at realistic volumes.
Re-baseline the roadmap annually against what actually shipped and document why prior projections shifted.

Function

Work that keeps the discipline running: methods, tools, suppliers and people.

Maintain node-by-node roadmaps for logic scaling, DRAM and NAND, advanced packaging and lithography, with feasibility and timing confidence bands.
Contribute to and synthesise industry roadmap bodies such as IRDS, the Heterogeneous Integration Roadmap and SEMI technology working groups.
Identify capability gaps and red flags where the roadmap depends on unproven materials, metrology or supply chain elements.
Translate roadmaps into internal decision inputs such as node adoption timing, capex sequencing and platform architecture assumptions.
Run structured elicitation with internal and external technologists to convert expert judgement into calibrated roadmap probabilities.
Publish the roadmap narrative for executives and defend its assumptions in strategy and investment reviews.

Typical backgrounds

PhD or MS in electrical engineering, materials science or applied physics; 12–20 years spanning device research, process integration or architecture before moving into roadmap and intelligence work.
