Not every piece of product work runs the whole lifecycle. The Hub sorts it into ten product types, from a test chip to a firmware release; each runs on its own set of lifecycles, with some stages and gates lightened or left out. Each type has its own page with what it is, how to tell it apart, the stages and gates it needs and what it must deliver.
Test chip or shuttle vehicleNon-product siliconA test chip, or a design placed on a shared shuttle wafer, exists to answer a technical question: how a new process behaves, whether an IP block meets its targets in silicon, or whether an architectural idea holds up. It is built, measured and learned from, and it never becomes an orderable part.
New product on a new platformSilicon programmeThe first product of a new architecture, a new process node, or both. It opens a new product family and a new qualification family that later derivatives build on, so every stage and gate of the product and chip lifecycles applies.
