1. Purpose and scope
A device passing its own qualification is necessary but not enough. Each customer decides whether to use the part in a program, and automotive customers working to IATF 16949 approve it through the production part approval process. The supplier submits a package of evidence, including design and process FMEAs, the control plan, measurement system analysis, qualification results and a part submission warrant, and the customer may audit the fab and assembly sites. Many power customers also qualify the device in their own inverter or charger to their own mission profile.
The purpose of this stage is to win and complete those approvals and to release the part for volume orders. It also brings together the compliance evidence customers need with every part: materials declarations such as RoHS and REACH, export classification of the part and its technology, which for wide bandgap devices may fall under controlled entries in some regimes, and any customer-specific declarations.
In scope: support for each customer's own qualification after design-in, the customer-specific requirements matrix, the production part approval package, audits, the release test program and screening plan, the datasheet, materials declarations, the export classification record and the long-term supply commitment. Out of scope: the design-in itself, agreed at the end of Application Evaluation & Reference Designs, and the volume ramp, which follows.
