1. Purpose and scope
Construction turns the released design into a building. For a fab this means deep foundations and a stiff structure that meets the vibration criteria of lithography and metrology tools, a large waffle slab or raised floor for the cleanroom, a sub-fab, central utility buildings, and a building envelope that can be made airtight and kept clean. It is a large and busy site, so safety and coordination are as important as progress.
The stage ends when the structure and envelope are complete and inspected, so cleanroom fit-out can start under clean build protocol. Some fit-out and utility work starts earlier in finished areas; the gate is about whether the building as a whole is ready for clean work.
In scope: site preparation, foundations, structure, envelope, utility buildings, construction quality and safety records, progress reporting and the structure and envelope completion record. Out of scope: cleanroom fit-out and commissioning, which belong to Cleanroom & Facility Systems.
