PPAP: Production Part Approval Process

The automotive method for getting a customer's approval that a supplier understands all requirements and that its production process, run under production conditions, can consistently build parts that meet them, before parts ship for series production and again after significant changes.

When it applies

You ship a new production part to an automotive customer, or supply an existing part to a new automotive application.
You change the design, the process, the manufacturing site, a material, a subcontractor or the test method of a part already approved.
Your customer is a tier one supplier or vehicle maker that names PPAP, or the VDA production process and product approval, in its specific requirements.
You are a chip supplier asked for an approval package for a device, which is normally built around AEC-Q qualification and semiconductor specific evidence.
