Jack Kilby demonstrates the first working integrated circuit at Texas Instruments
Working largely alone over the summer while most of Texas Instruments was on vacation, Kilby builds a phase-shift oscillator on a single sliver of germanium — resistors, capacitor and transistor all on one piece of semiconductor. The demonstration proves that an entire circuit, not just a single device, can be fabricated on one chip.
