Intel announces 22nm Tri-Gate (FinFET) transistors
Intel unveiled the industry's first production-ready 3D "Tri-Gate" transistor, a design that wraps the gate around three sides of a raised silicon fin instead of using a flat planar gate. This FinFET architecture became the industry standard for advanced logic chips in the following decade.
