Frank Wanlass files the patent for CMOS technology
Working at Fairchild Semiconductor, Wanlass files for a patent on complementary MOS circuits — pairing p-channel and n-channel transistors so a gate draws almost no current except while switching. Decades later, CMOS's low static power is the reason it displaced every other logic family in mainstream digital chips.
