Jack Kilby files the first patent for a "miniaturized electronic circuit"
Texas Instruments files Kilby's patent application on his integrated circuit concept, months ahead of Fairchild's rival filing. The two companies' competing claims would later be resolved through cross-licensing rather than a single winner, but Kilby's filing date stands as the first for the integrated circuit itself.
