Synchronous rectification
Replacing an output rectifier diode with an actively driven MOSFET, so the drop becomes I times RDS(on) rather than a fixed forward voltage. It is essential for efficiency at low output voltages where a diode drop is a large fraction of the output.

Notes
The controller must stop conduction before the current reverses, which makes SR timing tricky in resonant converters.
