SiC boule (Silicon Carbide boule)
The bulk single crystal of silicon carbide from which wafers are sliced, grown at over 2000 degrees by sublimation rather than from a melt because SiC does not melt at usable pressures.

Notes
Slow growth, typically under a millimetre per hour, plus hard, lossy sawing, is why SiC wafers cost far more than silicon.
