Refresh
The periodic read and rewrite of every DRAM row to restore charge lost to leakage. It consumes bandwidth and power, and the required rate rises with die density and with temperature, typically doubling above 85 degrees Celsius.

Notes
Growing refresh overhead is one reason DRAM latency has barely improved in two decades even as data rates multiplied.
