Parity
A single redundant bit set so the number of ones in a word is even or odd, detecting any odd number of bit errors without correcting them. It is the cheapest memory and bus protection and is common where the data can be refetched.

Notes
Used on read-only caches because a parity error can simply invalidate the line and force a refill.
