Final test vs SLT: what is the difference?
The difference
System-level test runs real software on the part in a board that mimics the application. It is sometimes added after final test to catch faults structural tests miss.
Final test applies tester patterns on automatic test equipment, with fine control and good diagnosis. SLT runs the device as a system and catches different failures; final test still handles checks such as assembly opens and shorts and parametric measurements.
The two terms
Final test
Electrical test of the packaged device on automated test equipment, after assembly, typically across temperature and using a handler and load board rather than a wafer prober.
SLT
A final screening step in which the packaged device runs in a representative system environment, booting real firmware and exercising real interfaces, rather than being driven by tester patterns.
