The standard test-access port and boundary-scan architecture used to test PCB interconnects and, critically, to load firmware and debug chips in-system — the connector and protocol underneath nearly every hardware debugger and programmer. Its access port is also a well-known attack surface, which is why production silicon typically locks or disables it.
