Plan Work product in the Medical electronics and medical device chips lifecycle and the Avionics and airborne electronics lifecycle
It sets how the software will be built so that it can meet regulatory or certification expectations. In the medical lifecycle it is required by IEC 62304 and is scaled to the software safety class; in the avionics lifecycle it is a DO-178C planning document submitted with the other plans to the certification authority. Without it, practices vary between developers and the evidence needed later does not exist.
