1. Purpose and scope
Validation shows the silicon does what the design intended across the full specified range of temperature, voltage and frequency. For a space part the range is often wider than for commercial parts, and the validation also builds the baseline for radiation testing: the parameters that dose will shift, measured on serialised parts before any exposure.
The stage releases engineering models to customers. They are electrically representative but not screened or qualified for flight, and customers use them for board and system design, software development and their own early testing. Engineering models are export controlled items like any other, and each shipment needs its authorisation.
