1. Purpose and scope
A qualified part is not yet a profitable one. The product cost assumed a yield, a test time and a supply capacity, and the ramp is where those assumptions meet volume. This stage raises output towards forecast demand, finds and removes the causes of yield loss, tunes test for volume, and puts statistical process control in place so that production stays stable.
The stage starts at the volume ramp gate, after production release, and continues until yield has reached the level assumed in the product cost, output meets forecast demand and process control is in place. It then hands over to volume production and sustaining.
Scope includes the foundry process, assembly and test, the data flows that connect them, and the planning that matches wafer starts to customer demand. Many of the people involved work across several products, so clear priorities and data ownership matter.
