1. Purpose of the gate
Qualification passed decides that the RF part and its module are fit for production from an engineering point of view. Parts and modules built on the production flow have passed reliability qualification, including the RF stresses in the plan, and the production RF test is released with limits correlated to the bench.
It is the RF chip's own qualification gate. The production release that follows is a business decision owned by the Product lifecycle; it relies on this gate for the engineering evidence and adds the datasheet, certification, materials and export records, and supply.
Qualification of an RF part has to cover more than the stresses every part takes. Power amplifiers and front ends are stressed under RF drive, with mismatch where the application can present it, and the parameters that drift under stress, such as output power, gain, linearity and noise, are measured before and after with the same calibrated set-up. Modules add the stresses of the package, the laminate and any antenna in the package.
The gate sits at the end of the stage Qualification & Production Test, before the production release, and belongs to the RF engineering track. It carries the last technical readiness review, which checks the production readiness of the technology.
