1. Purpose of the gate
Module samples confirm that the assembled module works as the customer will use it. Conducted measurements cover gain, power, noise, linearity and emissions at the module ports; over-the-air measurements cover antenna patterns, gain and efficiency and, for arrays, beam steering and scan range. Calibration runs in the module with the released control software.
The gate releases the module to pre-compliance testing and to customers for evaluation and design-in. It also freezes the configuration that will go to formal testing, because what is certified is a specific combination of hardware, bill of materials and software.
Build data from the samples matter as much as their performance. The build report records yield, rework, any assembly issues and the spread between samples, because these predict production yield and the margin to limits in pre-compliance and formal testing. Samples kept as golden units for laboratories and for later correlation are identified and stored with their configuration.
The gate sits at the end of the stage Module & Antenna-in-Package Integration and belongs to the product track. In one line: Assembled modules are measured as the customer will use them, including antenna patterns and beam steering for arrays, and are ready for pre-compliance testing and customer evaluation.
