1. Purpose of the gate
The circuit and EM design review decides whether the circuits are ready to be laid out. Layout and extraction are slow and expensive, so the review checks that every block already meets its specification across corners with electromagnetic models of its critical passives, that every amplifier is stable, and that the layout plan reflects what the circuits need. It is the last point where a topology change costs only simulation time.
It also closes the calibration and control specification, the control interface and the passive strategy, and confirms the design kit version the whole design uses.
The gate sits at the end of the stage Circuit & Electromagnetic Co-design and belongs to the RF engineering track. In one line: Schematic-level design is complete with electromagnetic models of every critical passive in the simulation, and the circuits meet their block specifications across corners before layout is committed.
