1. Purpose and scope
Ramp and growth turns design wins into revenue. Customers move from prototypes to their own production, so demand rises quickly and unevenly; a single large customer starting production can change the picture in one planning cycle. The business must scale capacity, raise yield, meet delivery commitments and deal fast with the first field issues, because this is the period when customers form their view of the supplier's reliability.
The stage opens at the Volume ramp gate, when capacity and the ramp plan match the forecast and process control is in place, and closes at Ramp complete, when yield and cost are at or near plan, delivery is reliable, early field issues are closed or contained and sustaining owners have taken over.
The SoC lifecycle's production ramp and yield stage runs alongside, and its Volume ramp gate is the same decision as the product gate.
