At least one lead customer product built on the technology passes the customer's qualification and system evaluation, and the customer approves it for volume.
This is the point at which the technology is proven in a real product. The review checks the customer's qualification results, the provider's own stresses, the handling of every failure, the completeness of the compliance file and the quality terms that will govern volume supply.
Public industry analysis notes that customers who reach volume with a packaging provider through a joint development tend to stay with it for later products, so this approval is often the start of a long relationship.
