1. Purpose of the gate
The transduction principle, the structure and the process route are chosen together, with multiphysics evidence that the concept can meet the error budget.
This gate fixes the physics of the sensor. Once the transduction principle and structure are chosen, the process, readout, package and calibration are designed around them, and changing the principle later means starting co-design again. The gate therefore demands evidence that the concept meets the error budget not only at nominal dimensions but across expected process spread, and that every structure can be built, released and sealed.
Reviewers look as hard at the options rejected as at the one chosen, so that the reasons are recorded and the choice is not reopened without new evidence.
