1. Purpose and scope
Memory is sold by the bit in large volumes, so the ramp decides the economics of the generation. Every point of yield, every bit gained per wafer and every second of test time changes margin. At the same time customers expect committed allocations to arrive, and the older generation may still need capacity. The ramp has to raise output quickly without losing control of the process or the quality of shipped parts.
The stage opens at Production release, when the part is released for volume production and sale with qualified process, test and assembly flows and capacity committed, and closes at Ramp complete, when yield, good bits per wafer, test time and output reach their mature levels.
In scope: the production release record, process and assembly control plans, holding the production test flow released at the bin and grade plan release in control, capacity and ramp plans, yield learning in volume, test time reduction, allocation and early field monitoring. Out of scope: the grade structure, which is set in Binning, Grading & Product Mix, and shrinks, which follow later.
