1. Purpose and scope
A memory part built to a standard is used with controllers and processors from many companies, and each system maker qualifies it on its own platforms before it buys in volume. Often the maker qualifies parts from several memory suppliers to the same standard and compares them. Passing the supplier's own qualification is necessary but not enough: the part must interoperate with each platform, train reliably, hold margin across the system's conditions and meet each customer's quality expectations.
This stage runs those customer qualifications with lead customers chosen at the Engineering samples gate, resolves the issues they find and records each approval by customer, part number and revision. It closes at Customer qualification approved, when lead system makers have approved the part for their products.
In scope: the customer sample plan, platform validation, the interoperability test report, issue analysis and resolution, customer quality audits and approvals. Out of scope: the supplier's component qualification, which precedes this stage, and volume supply, which follows in High-Volume Ramp.
