1. Purpose of the gate
The cell structure and array organisation are chosen, with evidence from simulation and early structures that they can reach the density and the cell behaviour the generation needs.
The cell decides most of what follows: die size, process complexity, how the array is sensed and how the part behaves over time. Once the process modules are built around it, changing the cell means starting again. This review therefore asks for evidence rather than intent: simulation calibrated to short-loop wafers, margins for retention, disturb and endurance across the expected spread, sensing studies on the weakest cells and die size estimates that include periphery and repair.
Rejected options matter as much as the chosen one. Recording why each alternative was dropped lets a later team revisit the choice quickly if the chosen cell runs into trouble, and stops the same options being studied again from scratch.
