1. Purpose of the gate
This gate approves both what will be deployed and how the program will get there. The standard process set must be good enough to pilot: reviewed by the people who will use it and checked against the assessment model. The improvement plan must be credible: every gap covered, owners named, resources released and the timetable fitted to the customer milestones.
Two decisions that shape every project are frozen here: the structure of the process set and its integration with functional safety and cybersecurity processes, and the traceability strategy. Changing either after projects start on the processes is costly.
