1. Purpose and scope
The formal assessment is the moment the organisation's process capability is measured by a certified team, usually for a customer. It is led by a lead assessor certified under the intacs scheme at the grade the customer requires, working with at least one co-assessor. The team follows the assessment process described in the VDA guidelines and the ISO/IEC 33000 series: it plans, interviews, reviews evidence, rates each process attribute on the ordinal scale of not, partially, largely or fully achieved, consolidates ratings and gives first feedback.
For the organisation, the stage is mostly about readiness and conduct. Readiness means an agreed plan, the right assessors, an evidence index that points to live records and practitioners who can show their own work. Conduct means letting the assessors see the real records, not editing or creating records during the assessment to fill gaps, keeping tools available, and answering questions honestly. Assessors rate what existed before they arrived.
In scope: the assessment plan, the confidentiality agreement, the evidence index, the kick-off, interviews, evidence review, rating and consolidation, and the first feedback. Out of scope: the assessment report and the customer's decision, which belong to Rating, Capability Profile & Report.
