1. Purpose of the gate
The final layout database and the package design are released to manufacture and accepted.
Tape-out is the most expensive single commitment in the hardware lifecycle. Masks, wafers, memory stacks and packages are committed, and anything wrong now costs a revision. For an accelerator, the die is often large, the package carries memory stacks, and power integrity under workload activity is a central concern, so the review covers die and package together.
The review confirms that physical sign-off still holds on the final database, that every change since sign-off was handled properly and re-checked, and that test, bring-up and system hardware are ready for what comes back.
Reviewers should also look forward. What comes back from manufacture is only useful if test, bring-up boards and bring-up software are ready for it, so the review confirms those plans as well as the database itself, and agrees how the first build is run.
