1. Purpose of the gate
The die, the package with its memory stacks, and the board and cooling pass reliability qualification on parts from the production flow, and the production and system-level test programs that screen every unit are released, so the technology is shown ready for volume.
Qualification passed is the engineering answer to one question: will the accelerator, made the way it will be made in volume, survive the stresses of its intended use for its intended life, and can every unit shipped be screened to the same standard? It is the chip track's own decision, held before the production release so that the business decision to accept volume orders rests on a recorded engineering judgement rather than on a line in a launch review.
For an accelerator the judgement covers more than the die. The package carries stacked memory beside the die, often on an interposer or a large substrate, and the card or module carries heavy power delivery and air or liquid cooling. Each of these has its own failure modes under temperature, humidity, power cycling and mechanical stress, and each is qualified to the standard the market expects, such as the JEDEC methods for the silicon and package and the system level qualification the deployment needs.
The gate also releases the tests that screen every unit. Large accelerator dies with stacked memory are tested at wafer, at package and often at system level with real workloads, because some defects only show under the activity and heat of real work. The production and system-level test programs must be correlated with characterisation, their limits set from data, and placed under change control before they are released.
This is the technical readiness review TR3, moved here from the production release so that the tag sits on the review that holds the technical evidence. The production release then takes this decision record as an input, beside the production software release and the supply evidence, and the Product lifecycle's production release relies on both.
Reviewers should leave able to say which configurations are qualified, to which standard, with which exceptions, and which test programs now screen production. Anything less becomes a condition with an owner, not an assumption carried into the ramp.
