Ansys vs Synopsys: what is the difference?
The difference
Synopsys acquired Ansys in 2025. Ansys tools are now Synopsys products, though the Ansys name remains on many of them.
Ansys was a separate engineering simulation company until Synopsys completed its acquisition in July 2025. Its products now sit within Synopsys, though older documents still treat it as a separate vendor.
The two terms
Ansys
A simulation software company whose semiconductor products cover power integrity, thermal and electromagnetic analysis, including RedHawk-SC for IR drop and electromigration and Totem for analog power signoff.
Synopsys
The largest EDA company, supplying synthesis, implementation, static timing, verification, extraction and a very large silicon IP portfolio. Its tools include Design Compiler, Fusion Compiler, PrimeTime, VCS, StarRC and HSPICE.
